Located in the South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Heatherton Christian College is an independent college that provides education from Prep to Year 12. Our purpose is to provide a College environment that is safe and encouraging, reinforcing the Christian values of our parents and families. Our families benefit from a team of dedicated Christian teachers and staff who believe in developing the academic potential and character of your child with an emphasis placed on the overall wellbeing of all our students

Curriculum

Our curriculum is student-focused and meaningful learning is at the heart of all that we do. The College is committed to smaller class sizes, enabling teachers to spend more quality individual time with students. If you were to walk past any of our classrooms you would see engaged students, discussing or debating while engaging in investigative and effective thinking to problem solve and discover new solutions and concepts. Our classrooms are vibrant and exciting, while our curriculum is underpinned by a Christian world view and delivered in a warm and caring environment. We want to ensure all our students grow both academically and spiritually, reaching their full potential. We offer a wide range of subjects offered at VCE level which are tailored to the needs of our students as they prepare to graduate.

Facilities

Our facilities are beautifully presented and well resourced with modern technologies. We have wide-open learning areas for group interactions, an attractive assembly hall, multipurpose courts, a sporting oval, shaded playground area, Science labs, Visual Art Centre, Food Technology rooms, Music rooms and a fully networked Apple Mac computer centre. A gymnasium, expanded library and additional classrooms are amongst the more recent additions.

Extras

Beyond The Classroom: We provide extensive co-curricular programs for our students to expand and grow. Some of these include camps and excursions, musical productions, overseas study tours, surf rescue certificates, leadership opportunities, skiing camp, short-term overseas student exchange, lunchtime programs, student chapel service and our Year of Challenge (Year 9).

Heatherton Christian College is a very unique school with a true focus on helping students to grow in their Christian faith and character, to grow as learners and to develop a clear sense of their God given purpose in order to be a positive influence in the world.

As such, Heatherton’s Enrolment Policy reflects this focus and requires that at least one parent is active in their Christian Faith, and that this is supported with a Pastoral Reference (this is a reference from a pastor, priest or minister advising that a person is an attendee at their church).

We believe in actively living out our Christian values and partnering with parents to achieve the best possible outcome for their child’s growth and education – knowing that, this is best achieved with both parties being in agreement in values, ethos and faith.

Principal's Message

I joined Heatherton Christian College as one of the inaugural Primary school teachers when it first opened in 1999. Prior to this, I had taught for 10 years in the Victorian state education system. I was appointed as the Principal of Heatherton Christian College in 2001 so this makes 2021 my 21st year as Principal / Executive Principal and 23rd year on staff. The school began with 27 students and, when appointed Principal, we had an enrolment of about 60 students and had not yet commenced secondary education.

Over the next 19 years, it was a pleasure to lead Heatherton Christian College and to see the school flourish and grow into a thriving, well resourced, Prep-Year 12 school. 2019 marked a significant change in my role as, with the launch of our second campus, Wyndham Christian College, I became Executive Principal over both Heatherton Christian College and Wyndham Christian College. I am now supported in my role by two wonderful Heads of Campus – Mr Phil Eastman (Heatherton CC) and Mrs Jennifer Trodden (Wyndham CC). Phil, Jen and I work extremely closely in planning together for the future growth and development of both campuses. My role now involves me spending part of the week at each campus. I am passionate about both Heatherton Christian College and Wyndham Christian College and absolutely love moving between the two campuses.

The students, staff and school community each contribute towards creating a truly unique educational environment, all undergirded by a strong Christian foundation. There is something really special about both schools and the Lord is clearly at work in them. One of my greatest joys is leading the annual Heatherton Christian College Year 12 missions’ trip to Thailand where our students have the opportunity to put into practice all they have learnt in looking to serve and make a difference to others.

I am also a long-suffering St Kilda supporter, enjoy jogging and have completed three full Melbourne marathons. We look forward to talking with you and showing you our wonderful school.
