Our bright and engaging Kindergarten program offers a supportive "beginning of school" experience, ensuring a seamless transition into Prep. Our unique Bush Kindy program is a highlight, allowing children to explore the wonders of nature along the creek on our expansive 40-acre property, transforming the outdoors into a giant, exciting playground for learning and growth.

Our Primary School cultivates a learning environment that fosters creativity, curiosity, critical thinking, and academic risk-taking, complemented by high levels of engagement in co-curricular activities. Our emphasis on strong values and College virtues creates a positive and holistic culture where our primary learners can thrive.

Our Secondary School strives for academic excellence, grounded in faith-inspired values and enriched by a diverse range of co-curricular programs and pathways. We are committed to instilling a sense of purpose and compassion in our students, guiding them to become thoughtful, responsible, and impactful citizens.

Kindergarten
Primary
Junior Secondary
Senior Secondary

Learning at Freshwater Christian College is distinguished by the wide range of co-curricular programs and opportunities available to all students. At every stage of their development, our students participate in activities outside the classroom environment spanning across a range of subject areas.

Sport

Freshwater Christian College fosters a vibrant sporting culture with opportunities for participation, competition, and representative pathways at every level.

We have three sports houses—Douglas Barras, Frangos Sharks, and Fuller Crocs—which compete in Inter-house Carnivals (Swimming, Cross Country, and Athletics) that promote fun and full student involvement.

Secondary students enjoy lunchtime inter-house and staff vs. student matches, fostering school community, fitness, and team spirit.

Dedicated training programs, including a before-school running club and lunchtime track and field training, prepare students for the carnivals.

Students can represent the College in Inter-School Sporting Competitions, such as JSS (Junior Secondary) and CISSA (Senior Secondary), competing against schools across the Far North. After-school training prepares students for gala days in sports including basketball, volleyball, netball, soccer, and futsal. Primary and Secondary students also compete in the FNQ Futsal Titles.

The College is a pathway to higher representation; students can trial for Trinity Coast North (TCN) representative teams, which is the first step toward Peninsula, State, and National levels.

Students are also invited to join a Freshwater Falcons Futsal Team for summer and winter seasons at Redlynch Futsal Stadium. We field multiple subsidised teams (girls, boys, or mixed) across Primary and Secondary age groups.

Primary students participate in an annual learn-to-swim program. This culminates in the Swimming Carnival for Years 4–12, and the popular ‘Splashorama’ Day water play party for Junior Primary students.

Our Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) supports younger students (Prep to Grade 2) in enhancing physical and motor skills, including coordination, balance, and locomotion, with the assistance of supportive Grade 6 student leaders.

Performing & Visual Arts

Freshwater Christian College celebrates creativity through comprehensive programs in both Visual and Performing Arts.

Our Music Program offers diverse opportunities for students to develop their talents: Students in Year 5 will participate in the Beginning Band Program, where they will be supplied with a loan instrument and receive 30 minutes of specialised instrumental group instruction each week, as well as participate in a weekly combined band session. We offer choirs at different levels, including our award-winning Senior Primary Choir, which performs at various events throughout the year, such as the Cairns Eisteddfod. Secondary students can join our Woodwind Ensemble or serve in our Chapel Band, leading worship at weekly Chapel services. Private music tuition is available across a range of instruments.

We also offer dedicated Drama classes with numerous performance opportunities throughout the year, highlighted by our biannual production/musical.

The Visual Arts program encourages students to explore creativity and develop technical skills across various media. Students have opportunities to exhibit their works both within the school and the broader community, where they have received many accolades for their achievements.

Outdoor Learning

Freshwater Christian College provides extensive outdoor learning and adventure programs designed to enhance student development, connection to nature, and spiritual growth.

Our highly regarded Bush Kindy program offers Kindergarten students the unique opportunity to learn through play and exploration in nature by visiting our on-campus creek twice weekly during Terms 2 and 3. Primary students are also regularly given opportunities to engage with the natural environment, including our creek, providing benefits not possible within a traditional classroom setting.

The College offers an extensive Outdoor Education Camping Program for Years 4–12. These camps support students' spiritual growth, build positive peer relationships, develop teamwork skills, and grow resilience while engaging with the natural environment and trying new activities. Locations include unique environments such as Fitzroy Island on the Great Barrier Reef, Magnetic Island, Lake Tinaroo, Echo Creek, and the Daintree Rainforest Observatory.

As part of our personal growth program, students participate in various outdoor learning experiences, including the popular Year 7 rafting program and a range of orienteering courses located within our campus. Further enhancing this program are specific year-level excursions, such as the Year 3 Green Island day trip and a Year 10 outer reef trip focused on snorkeling and understanding the importance of marine conservation.

Additionally, the annual Great Wheelbarrow Race sees a team of Year 12 students train and compete in the 140km relay from Mareeba to Chillagoe over three days to raise funds for charity.

Enrichment Opportunities

Freshwater Christian College offers students who have a passion for problem-solving and critical thinking the opportunity to showcase their skills through various enrichment programs and competitions.

Our curriculum department provides a variety of challenges throughout the year designed to support and extend our young learners. These programs include a maths enrichment program, various maths competitions, and interschool maths challenge days. We also offer opportunities for reading, writing, and science competitions across different year levels, including participation in the Reader's Cup program.

A key enrichment activity is Opti-MINDS. This inclusive team challenge empowers participants to think, create, and communicate, with the College fielding teams in Language Literature, Science Engineering, and Social Sciences. Our Opti-MINDS teams have celebrated many successes, often competing in State level competitions.

Freshwater Christian College adopts a holistic approach to wellbeing, building resilience and promoting positive social, spiritual, and emotional health.

Our approach is underpinned by the College Virtues (Compassion, Courage, Humility, Honour, Integrity, and Wisdom). Taught explicitly and implicitly from Kindy through Year 12, these virtues guide our students' character development alongside their academic excellence.

Our experienced wellbeing team actively plans, implements, and supports student social, emotional, and spiritual growth. Promoting connection and belonging is key to our wellbeing program, which includes formal and informal mentoring and Buddy Programs across the College.

Our behaviour management approach is rooted in our mission to develop citizens who are image bearers of Christ. We foster this culture through a relational and restorative approach to development, strongly promoting the proactive teaching of our College virtues and key character strengths.

More Than A School, We're A Community
