Why Choose…
The Adventist Advantage

Hills Adventist College offers a comprehensive education for your children, from Pre-school, and a Pre-Kinder year called ‘Prep’, to Primary School and onto Secondary School across two campuses.

Providing quality Christian education for 60 years

With our values of Compassion, Hope, Excellence, Respect and Integrity, we seek to graduate students with a Christ-centred faith, the knowledge and skills for a wide range of future pathways and a positive sense of the satisfaction that arises from service to others.

Choosing the right school for your child is one of the most significant decisions you will make during their lives. It is a decision that will not only shape their development and character during their school years, but will also determine the type of person they become throughout their life.  Therefore, when it comes to making this decision, you are seeking the very best environment for your children.
Hills Adventist College provides an opportunity for students to realise their hopes and aspirations. Hills is a place where they can feel safe, happy and nurtured and have the ideal platform on which to grow into a healthy, confident and capable adult.  Hills staff supports them on their journey, acknowledging their uniqueness and individual qualities and talents, each one having their own goals and directions.
Hills Adventist College staff understands each stage of the development of children, and the importance of nurturing them for today to prepare them for an unknown future.  Hills staff encourage students to make the most of their individual potential and to get the best from their education. The strong academic record is just part of the story. The College understands the need to cater for the whole child and therefore offers a balanced educational experience which includes a showcase of exceptional co-curricular programs. We are deeply committed to academic, sporting and cultural excellence. We are equally committed to service both locally and overseas, and the importance of teaching children that they can make a difference as a member of the 'global village'.

Respect

To respect someone is to value that person’s ideas, feelings, space, or privacy. We show respect by listening to people and trying to follow their wishes when it comes to their feelings and body. It is important to respect others but it is also very important to respect yourself by staying in control of yourself and telling people when they are making you uncomfortable.

"Respect for ourselves guides our morals; respect for others guides our manners"
- Laurence Sterne (1713 - 1768)

Excellence

Excellence is "being all that you can be" within the bounds of doing what is right. In order to reach excellence, you must first be a person of good character. Character is heavily influenced by the environment in which a person is raised and the people after whom that person moulds themselves.

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.
- Aristotle

Compassion

There are scientific studies that suggest there are physical benefits to practicing compassion. But there are other benefits as well, and these are emotional and spiritual. The main benefit is that it helps you to be happier, and brings others around you to be happier. If we agree that it is a common aim of each of us to strive to be happy, then compassion is one of the main tools for achieving that happiness. It is therefore of utmost importance that we cultivate compassion in our lives and practice compassion every day.

"There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up."
- John Holmes

“The Lord is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love."
- Psalm 145:8 (NLT)

Integrity

A person with integrity is the same on the inside as he or she claims to be on the outside. A person of integrity can be trusted. To live with integrity is to literally integrate what you think, know, believe with what you say; and to integrate what you say with what you do. It is a state of consistently weaving and reweaving your understanding of yourself as you grow and learn and experience more of yourself and the world around you.

"I know, my God, that you examine our hearts and rejoice when you find integrity there."
- 1 Chronicles 29:17a

Hope

A positive sense of hope for the future is vitally important to every area of life. You can’t advance in any area without hope. You can’t establish fulfilling relationships without hope. You can't discover your purpose in life without hope. You’ll never reach your full potential without hope.

To the Christian, hope is the knowledge that we are being changed for the better as we trust in God's promises (Romans 8:28). It is the conviction that no matter the circumstances, God's plans for our lives are "for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope" (Jeremiah 29:11b NLT).
VISION STATEMENT

Nurture for Today, Learning for Tomorrow, Character for Eternity…
Nurture for Today

Feelings of worth can flourish only in an atmosphere where individual differences are appreciated, mistakes are tolerated, communication is open, and rules are flexible--the kind of atmosphere that is found in a nurturing community. Hills Adventist College knows the importance of nurturing each member of the college community to create a positive experience in the lives of students every day.

"We must imbue our children with principles of the higher-self, principles which see all people as true equals, and above all, which are sensitive to the delicate and fragile balance of life."
? Bryant McGill, Voice of Reason

Learning for Tomorrow

Learning is the consistent and deep engagement of the mind and body in the active pursuit of knowledge and experience. Hills Adventist College believes in the importance of a student learning to learn, and becoming involved in lifelong learning. Education is making a shift away from just focusing on the "delivery of knowledge" and moving towards a style of learning that encompasses the "development of knowledge and skills" to prepare students for an unknown future, we must prepare them with skills and attitudes that help them embrace their tomorrow with confidence.

"It is important that students bring a certain ragamuffin, barefoot irreverence to their studies; they are not here to worship what is known, but to question it."
? Jacob Bronowski, The Ascent

Character for Eternity

Hills Adventist College recognises the importance of the development of good character, not only as students face their present but as they look to their future. Character development is not an alternative to academic attainment but as an essential adjunct of it. Respect; excellence; compassion; integrity; purpose; responsibility; empathy; resilience and self-regulation are all important attributes that a strong partnership between home and school can teach and build in each of our students.

"As students grow in character, they grow in their capacity and commitment to do their best work, do the right thing and lead lives of purpose. Character education done early and well, puts students toward successful life outcomes." – Dr. Victor
Hills Adventist College aims to provide a balanced education, identifying and developing creativity, citizenship and academic excellence while complementing and extending the training provided by Christian homes and churches.

Angela Van Dyke

Hills Adventist College is the most loving, nurturing and caring school environment I have ever experienced.  I cannot speak highly enough of the teachers, who have an amazing capacity to make you feel welcome and valued in the school. I have met all my daughters’ teachers, and each one has given me an accurate account of her learning and ability. They always have a smile and are so sensitive to the students needs. They seem to genuinely love their work! Regardless of how they make me feel, they have allowed my daughter to grow and flourish academically and personally. They have instilled renewed confidence in her, and teach that you just need to keep trying and give it your best. Importantly, they back this up with practical suggestions and tools so students are equipped to “keep trying and give it their best”.

It was very important for us to find a school that reinforced the values we teach at home. In fact, Alexandra was the one who came to us at the end of Year 8 and said she could not continue attending the school she was at, because it was changing her as a person. It was a very mature observation for her to make, and painful for us as parents to hear. When I went on a tour of the college I wasn’t sure what she was thinking. I was impressed and really liked what I heard and saw. She asked lots of questions. Afterwards we went out for hot chocolate and a debrief. She was adamant that this was the place for her. She begged me not to send her to some other schools we were considering. In her heart, she had found the right place for her. And she was absolutely right!

School is a little bit like a roller-coaster, there are times when there is a lot of work and assessments, but the teachers are always available to help and support us through these intense times.  Then there are times when the work is less intense where we can focus on relationships, and that is pretty cool, because it’s very easy to make friends, because everyone is so nice.

Todd & Angela Wilkinson

“Hills Adventist College was an absolute stand out when my husband and I commenced researching high school options for our son. We had attended nine open days at various schools within the LGA. We were so amazed with the positive and passionate attitude displayed by the schools executive, teachers, support staff and students. We were also impressed by the extra curricular activities available to students. The college has always made us feel very welcome and part of the school community. Our son has definitely benefitted from the well-structured and resourced curriculum which is delivered in a safe and nurturing environment by caring teachers.

The morality and respectful atmosphere at Hill Adventist College also serves to teach our children to be polite, respectful and understanding members of our community. We are extremely happy that our son has been given the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful school in building a solid foundation for his future. I would recommend Hills Adventist College to any parent or family looking for a well-rounded educational experience for their children. Well done Hills Adventist College.”

Hills Adventist College has a proud heritage within the Hills District as a provider of quality Christian education for nearly 60 years. Over those years of service to the community the College has sought to graduate students with a Christ-centred faith, the knowledge and skills for a wide range of future pathways and a positive sense of the satisfaction that arises from service to others.

The education needed today is future-focused and therefore comprises more than the acquisition of knowledge and skills, as important as that will be. The future calls for personal characteristics; qualities that will stand the test of time, which are valued by parents, caregivers, employers and the community. Hence our strong commitment to nurture and model our core values—Respect, Excellence, Compassion, Integrity and Hope.

The future calls for personal characteristics; qualities that will stand the test of time, which are valued by parents, caregivers, employers and the community.

Hills Adventist College is very intentional in our efforts to support your child's development—through vibrant faith-development plans, consistent implementation of our research-informed pedagogical framework, recognition of the holistic nature of each individual and the need to reflect individual diversity in the delivery of learning.
