Macte Virtute Et Litteris - Grow in Character and Scholarship.
The Rockhampton Grammar School is privileged to be led by a dedicated team that takes immense pride in its exceptional teachers, who are widely recognised for their passion and commitment. This dedication is reflected not only in the School's outstanding academic achievements—earning its place as Central Queensland’s top-performing institution—but also in its extensive range of co-curricular activities, including sport, music, dance, agriculture, outdoor education, and more.
The School’s holistic approach to education is founded on the belief that a student's success extends beyond academic results. More than just a place of learning, it is a close-knit community—a family—where every member is valued and supported. From the moment a family joins the Grammar community, they become a part of something lasting, remaining connected long after graduation.
The Rockhampton Grammar School takes great pride in shaping well-rounded individuals who embrace values such as teamwork, self-discipline, and gratitude. As a result, its students contribute positively to their communities, both during their time at the School and beyond.
For nearly 145 years, the School has produced outstanding men and women who have been guided by the motto, Macte Virtute Et Litteris, or Grow in Character and Scholarship.
This motto is more than just words, it is embedded in our School's culture. Education at The Rockhampton Grammar School has always extended beyond facts and figures to focus on the needs of every individual to be happy here and put their best foot forward.
Parents continue to choose The Rockhampton Grammar School not only because we perform well academically, but because we know that not every student is the same. We care about every individual student's learning and character development in all aspects of their life, not just during school hours.
The holistic nature of this experience means Rockhampton Grammar students emerge into society educated, well-rounded and confident. With this strong foundation, every child is equipped to pursue their ambitions, secure in their sense of self, and armed with the capacity to deal with whatever opportunities and challenges that life will place in their way.
At RGS, we believe a good education is about more than developing skills our students already have. Instead, it's about giving them the space to try new things and discover what they're truly passionate about.
Our co-curricular programme is designed to give your child this space and encourage all our students to have a go. This is because we know that participation from everyone is central to a successful school, regardless of ability or experience.
Our co-curricular offering at RGS is a key part of our difference, complementing academic pursuits, strengthening out community and maintaining School traditions. RGS is proud to offer 35 Co-Curricular Sports and Activities in our Secondary School.
A Rockhampton Grammar Education gives your child real-world experience, beyond the four walls of a classroom or a school campus.
Ritamada, the School's beachfront education facility, forms the backbone of the School's Outdoor Education programme. Set on 82-hectares along the Capricorn Coast, Ritamada takes students away from the routine of the classroom and extends curriculum into the great outdoors where they learn valuable life skills.
As Grammarians, agriculture runs thick in our blood, and is a fundamental part of our core business. RGS Agriculture is embedded across the curriculum, from primary all the way through senior courses and on to accelerated tertiary courses.
Valuing its position as Queensland's largest boarding school, RGS is very much about the people who reside within it. Boarding has formed the core of the School since our founding in 1881 and continues to be a cornerstone of our School.
Conveniently located in one of Queensland's regional centres, we are proud to be chosen by families throughout Central Queensland, Far North Queensland, the Northern Territory and overseas. We also take the responsibility seriously. More than a third of our Secondary School students are boarders and we do everything we can to make sure they feel safe, comfortable and happy.
RGS is committed to promoting the wellbeing of every student. Our Pastoral Care programme aims to foster strong character development, a healthy lifestyle and a positive attitude to life and school. Nurturing the individual provides benefits in all areas of life, and we strongly believe it is important to help our students develop the tools and mindset to help them grow in character and go further.

For families living on the Capricorn Coast (Yeppoon/Emu Park) and North Rockhampton, our transport services provide a convenient and safe way for your child to get to and from school. For our boarding community we also offer the convenience of a boarder bus service at key times throughout the school year.
At The Rockhampton Grammar School, we are dedicated to fostering excellence and ensuring that every student has the opportunity to pursue their dreams, both inside and outside the classroom. Our commitment to offer a well-rounded education is exemplified through our scholarship programme, designed to recognise and support exceptional talent and dedication. We offer a range of scholarships that cater to various academic achievements, extracurricular accomplishments and community involvement. Through our scholarship programme, we aim to empower students to reach their full potential and make a positive impact on the world.
