Welcome to Calvary Christian College, a co-educational, independent, Christian College catering for children from the age of two years through to Year 12.

Calvary Christian College is a co-educational independent school providing excellence in Christian education to over 1000 students from our Early Learning Centre through to Year 12.

At Calvary we are committed to equipping and empowering our students to be emotionally, physically, intellectually, socially and spiritually resilient in preparation for the real world.

Our students have access to people, programs, technology and facilities that will foster and develop their character and skills to enable them to effectively and successfully interact in their world. We teach our students the value of respect for themselves, each other, and those in authority.

Defence Families

We must never forget why we have, and why we need our military. Our armed forces exist solely to ensure our nation is safe, so that each and every one of us can sleep soundly at night knowing we have “guardians at the gate”.
— Allen West

Calvary Christian College is proud to support the children of our ADF families. We recognise the difficulties encountered by Defence families with postings and deployments, and the associated issues involved with re-location to a new and unfamiliar environment. The College has caring staff who understand these pressures and can assist with settling in at the College and within the local community.
Defence School Mentor Program

The College runs a Defence School Mentor Program designed specifically to support the children of mobile defence families. It involves on-site, direct and flexible assistance to students, parents, teachers and other support services.

The program focuses on four key areas as students transition from one school to another, including:

Welcoming
Integrating
Absence support
Fare-welling

Some of the activities within the program include:

Assisting children and families to integrate into the new school and local community;
Monitoring the social, emotional and academic wellbeing of Defence students;
Helping students develop self-confidence, self-reliance and resilience;
Referring students to services, or school and community programs that meet their needs;
Enhancing awareness and appreciation of the unique Defence lifestyle in schools and communities; and
Providing support to children during times of parental absence.

Guidance and support is provided by our Student Services team alongside our Classroom Teachers, Year Level Coordinators and Student Leaders/Mentors.

Calvary Christian College has five key values which guide everything we do. We seek to inculcate these values in every student at the school.

The five key values come from Jesus’ commendation to the wise stewards in Matthew 25:21 – “Well Done Good Faithful Servant”

1. WE VALUE EXCELLENCE (“Well”)

We encourage students to achieve higher levels by continually doing the very best they can with God’s help.
They said of Jesus: “He does all things well” (Mark 7:37)

2. WE VALUE PERSISTENCE (“Done”)

We encourage students to develop the resilience and confidence to overcome challenges.
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)

3. WE VALUE HUMILITY (“Good”)

We encourage students to respect and value others.
“Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.” (1 Peter 5:6)

4. WE VALUE FAITH (“Faithful”)

We encourage students to develop obedience to God’s Word and trust in His faithfulness.
“The just shall live by faith” (Romans 1:17)

5. WE VALUE GENEROSITY (“Servant”)

We encourage students to see their gifts and talents as opportunities to glorify God as they serve others.
“A generous man devises generous things and by generosity he shall stand.” (Isaiah 32:8)
“Our vision is to graduate young people of strong Christian character who will become an influence for good in their world.”

Calvary Christian College is known for the high calibre of its graduates. It is our goal to equip and empower young people through faith in Christ to go on to make a positive contribution to the world in which they live.
“Our mission is to provide excellent opportunities for young people to develop Christian character and grow to their full potential intellectually, physically, spiritually and socially.”
Luke 2:52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and men.

Calvary Christian College is continually expanding and launching new initiatives that provide an excellent environment in which young people can succeed by finding and pursuing God’s unique purpose for their life.

Executive Principal’s Welcome

Hello and welcome to Calvary Christian College, Townsville. We want the same thing as you when it comes to your child’s education - a solid partnership between home and school to build and develop outstanding young people.

The partnership between home and our College is the heartbeat of every child’s learning journey at Calvary. We believe that we are called to create a Christ-centered learning community that enables our students to strive to be the very best they can in everything that they do.

The development of outstanding young people does not just magically happen, it takes commitment and hard work from a lot of people over a long period of time. At Calvary, we consider it a privilege to partner with our families to see the students in our care become all that God intended them to be.

As you explore our website I hope you can see and feel that it is all facets of a student’s journey that we focus on, these being academic, sports, performance and creative arts, emotional and social development, service and leadership and the development of character in and through the opportunities our College provides. Developing young people that are prepared and well equipped for their post school journey is fundamental to everything we do.

As a College we are very deliberate and strategic about incorporating the future skills our students will require into our everyday learning across our College. Skills such as problem-solving, critical and creative thinking, communication, collaboration and conflict resolution are all fundamental to preparing our students to go out and make a difference for good in our world.

Our College values come from Jesus’ commendation to the wise stewards in Matthew 25:21 “Well done good faithful servant”. We actively seek to inculcate these values into the lives of every student in our College as we believe these foundational values are those upon which successful and meaningful lives can be built.

I extend an invitation for you to come and visit our College. It is my hope that you will see and feel for yourself our community and culture, both of which we are very proud, but as the old saying goes “there is always room for one more!” and that might be your child.
