Fintona is an independent, non-selective, non-denominational day school renowned for a distinct and challenging approach to academic excellence. Fintona celebrates learning across a wealth of disciplines and encourages every student to move beyond their comfort zone to become fearless and adaptable leaders in their chosen field.

Inspired by strong leadership and exceptional teachers; engaged and eager to learn through broad-based rigorous education programs, a Fintona girl will find the confidence to achieve her highest academic and personal aspirations, whatever they may be.

Situated in Balwyn, an inner eastern suburb of Melbourne, the School caters for girls in Prep to Year 12 and offers a co-educational Early Learning program. The current enrolment is approximately 550 students from ELC to Year 12, with major entry points being 3-year old kinder, Year 5 and Year 7.

Fintona consists of the Early Learning Centre (co-educational), Junior School (Prep to Year 4), Middle School (Year 5 to Year 8) and Senior School (Year 9 to Year 12).
Our beautiful school grounds include a mixture of historic buildings and modern facilities such as our Early Learning Centre, landscaped, eco-friendly gardens as well as specialist classrooms in the Junior School. Our state-of-the-art Sports Centre, our Middle School House and soon to be built Art Precinct provide our girls with even further opportunities for moving into the future with confidence, optimism and imagination.

At Fintona, students can explore as many opportunities as they like. Our size means we are uniquely able to adapt what we offer to suit our students. Whether your child wants to row, debate international politics or has a passion for Mathematics, we have opportunities for her to develop her passions.

Students participate in choral and orchestral groups, school musicals, team sports (including rowing), public speaking, creative writing, Fintona Guides, drama and debating. Fintona also offers an extensive outdoor education program, including the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, community service, and study and exchange programs, both within Australia and overseas.

Fintona is a non-selective, non-denominational school with a warm and caring atmosphere for its students, who come from a variety of backgrounds. The dedicated staff encourage confidence in all students and the student counsellor, careers adviser and Heads of School further support girls academically and emotionally. The girls have access to an extensive pastoral care program focussed on developing resiliency and the capacity to deal with many of the complex issues that confront them as they move through school and into adulthood. As part of Fintona’s commitment to its students’ welfare, the school runs a Life Skills Program which covers a range of areas related to adolescent health and welfare and to the physical and emotional development of young women. In addition, a Study Skills program is offered to encourage the development of good study habits as well as to teach girls techniques to minimize stress during exams.

Fintona Girls’ School is located at 79 Balwyn Road, in the leafy eastern suburb of Balwyn, less than 100 metres from the corner of Whitehorse and Balwyn Roads. The Junior Campus, which incorporates the Early Learning Centre and the Junior School, is located at 80 Balwyn Road, Balwyn opposite the Senior Campus.
