Sophia College provides a Catholic education. We have high expectations of self-discipline and self-motivation for our students. We work in partnership with the home environment as we strive to give students what they need to flourish at school and be successful in their global future.
Our vision is to develop a community where students can grow in wisdom and love; to give them the space to develop their spirituality, to encourage them to understand and celebrate difference and to be respectful of each other and the earth. At Sophia College we value excellence and personal endeavours so that each of our students can be the best they can, given their individual talents.
Sophia College is a Catholic, co-educational secondary college founded in the Franciscan tradition. Our community is a proud member of the Brisbane Catholic Education network of schools.
All phases of schooling at Sophia College are underpinned by Brisbane Catholic Education's Learning and Teaching Framework and The Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Declaration (2019). The Alice Springs (Mparntwe - pronounced as 'M-ban-tua') Education Declaration sets the national vision for education for all Australians and notes two goals:
Curriculum design and delivery at Sophia College is grounded in the Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Education Declaration and is mindful of the declaration's goals. In alignment with the declaration, which promotes excellence and equity, we support students to achieve high standards and provide structures and adjusted strategies that enable equitable learning experiences. This is achieved within a faith-filled learning environment in which we are committed to supporting students to become confident and creative individuals, successful lifelong learners and active and informed members of the community.
Sophia College offers an extensive Performing Arts Program - including vocal and instrumental music, line theatrical performace and a specialist dance troupe.

At Sophia College, sport is a vital part of the holistic educational experience we provide. Whether students are aspiring elite athletes or enjoy participating in physical activity, our programs offer opportunities for everyone to discover and nurture their sporting passions and talents.
The College is dedicated to supporting students in becoming the best version of themselves, both on and off the field. With programs designed to cater to all skill levels—from beginners to high-performance athletes—every student is encouraged to engage and thrive in our sporting environment.
Our comprehensive sports program fosters physical development and teamwork, leadership, and resilience—skills that extend far beyond the sporting arena.
Students have access to various sports, guided by experienced coaches committed to helping them achieve their personal best. Still, by participating in sports at Sophia College, students also build a strong sense of community and school spirit, forging friendships and memories that last a lifetime.
Sophia College Carnivals
The College holds three inter-school sporting carnivals throughout the academic year. These events provide students with opportunities to showcase their skills and represent the College in various sports. The carnival's primary aim is to foster school spirit, teamwork, and a sense of pride among students; however, these carnivals also serve as platforms for students to progress to higher levels of competition, including the Metropolitan West (Met West).
The College's carnivals are held during the following periods:
Term 1: Twilight Swimming Carnival
Term 2: Cross Country Carnival & Track and Field Carnival

Target Sporting Programs (TSP)
Sophia College is proud to offer students the opportunity to compete at the highest levels in Queensland and Australia through our Target Sporting Programs (TSP). These programs are designed to focus on our five targeted sports, providing students with comprehensive training, expert coaching, and access to a professional and supportive sporting environment. Our TSP prioritises skill development, high-performance pathways, and personal growth, enabling students to achieve their sporting ambitions while fostering teamwork, resilience, and leadership.
Through strong partnerships with local and state sporting organisations, Sophia College ensures that students benefit from advanced development opportunities, quality competition exposure, and experienced coaches' guidance. These premier sports programs are open to male and female students, reflecting the College's commitment to inclusivity, excellence, and athletic success. Our Target Sporting Programs include:
CISSSA Sport
The Combined Ipswich Secondary School Sporting Association (CISSSA) is a sporting association comprising secondary schools in Ipswich and surrounding districts. The CISSSA competition allows students to develop their sporting skills over consecutive weeks of home and away competition, offering consistent playing opportunities over two seasons. Weekly sport at Sophia College provides several key benefits, including the ability for our state-competing teams to train and play together before their events. Teams are organised by year levels, ensuring age-appropriate competition and progression.

Welcome to our college community – a place of wisdom and love. As Sophia College begins to grow, so too does my excitement to be leading the community. As a college community alive in the Franciscan charism, we will seek to live in kinship with nature, each other, and God. Laudato Si – a critical response to the ecological crisis – is the foundation of our college and commitment to integral ecology which honours the interconnectedness of Creation in all forms.
Sophia College will be a place of learning that improves the performance of every learner, with dedicated and innovative teachers who engage and continually strive to implement the most prominent and research-based methods for learning and teaching. As principal, my mission is to provide every Sophia College student with the opportunity to excel in their chosen pathway and to leave the college as confident, responsive and informed, resilient individuals who are well prepared for a rapidly changing future.
