Focusing on the individual student and personalising pathways, The Studio School offers an alternative to mainstream schooling structures and systems through a studio model that sees students combining their studies with real-world projects and engagements in order to achieve their WACE.
With a shared vision of making a positive difference in our world, The Studio School offers the opportunity for students to make a positive difference through celebrating and tapping into their difference, diversity, skills and interests, enabling every student to flourish through contributing to and engaging with the real world in meaningful ways.
The Studio School enables its students to experience education as a seamless transition into the world of work and tertiary learning; connected to the real world, authentic and purposeful.
Each TSS student has a bespoke program that is designed around his/her specific interests and abilities. The unique mentoring support provided by TSS staff means that programs and support can be differentiated for all ability levels - from those students who need additional support to those who are gifted in particular domains.
Given the bespoke nature of each program for each individual student, all students have an individual learning plan that details:
• the student’s learning goals and aspirations, including their learning strengths and challenges
• the student’s program of study that will include the subjects/courses to be completed and assessed
• structured workplace learning and endorsed programs, all contributing to their WACE
• the planned and potential projects across their years of enrolment
• any specific learning needs and/or wellbeing issues requiring support.
All students at TSS will achieve a WACE upon completion of their individual learning plan. While TSS students may engage on campus in a range of General, VET and endorsed programs, they can also achieve an ATAR, if desired.
TSS has a young adult ethos, designed to promote independence andTSS has a young adult ethos, designed to promote independence andencourage students to take increasing responsibility in the managementof their studies and commitments. Students also haveaccess to the expert services of the Wellbeing Team (based at All Saints’College’s Bull Creek campus), including learning support, as required.Additionally, All Saints’ College’s Chaplain is a weekly visitor to TSS.Students have a TSS ‘wardrobe’ of comfortable clothing items from whichthey choose. When visiting their working partners offsite, students wearattire suitable to that environment (for example, business attire, PPE etc).SEQTA monitors and records attendance data and pastoral care notes.Under clearly explained policies and guidelines, and via a pass-tab process, students are able to leave the campus during the day for specific purposes.Communication with families is an important part of this process. As part of our student-centred approach, TSS students design theirown social functions that may include a Ball, charity events, bandperformances, dinners, various social events and so on. These events mayeven form part of some TSS students’ coursework and / or project work.In line with this approach, graduation (also designed in collaboration withstudents) is a celebration of all that the students have achieved in theirelebration of all that the students have achieved in theirtime at TSS.
