The one constant that we have in the rapidly changing times in which we live, is the drive to continue to educate and nurture our young people.
Recognising that actively building respectful and sustainable relationships with other human beings and with our planet builds strong social capital, which in turn, supports our wellbeing. In doing so we acknowledge our shared cultures and histories.
Creativity
Encouraging behaviours which encompass notions of innovation, originality, liberation and generative problem-solving in all that we do.
Scholarship
Celebration of persistent learning at a high level and the pursuit of excellence. Understanding the importance of thinking routines, self-regulation and reflection.
Courage
Developing the capacity to question without fear. Understanding that ‘success is not final, failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts.’
Education has never been more important – it is the key to unlocking individual and collective curiosity and our human potential. How we teach, where we teach and what we teach are being redefined and we need to be flexible, adaptive and creative, ensuring that every child can succeed – our school’s moral purpose.
Westbourne Grammar School was founded in 1867 with a vision to provide an outstanding education for young people in Melbourne’s west. The story of the school is one of courage, community and determination and it is no accident that our school values reflect these characteristics – Courage, Community, Creativity and Scholarship.
A drive to develop deep learning, ethical and moral behaviour, and a critical appreciation and understanding of the past, present, and the many possible futures that lay ahead, characterise a Westbourne education. We are passionate about what really matters – the holistic education of each child. The life of our school is a busy, vibrant, and committed one with so many opportunities to engage and enrich the emotional, intellectual, physical and social lives of everyone who is part of our community.
