Brisbane Christian College promotes a genuine understanding of how powerful a truly spiritual life is, the value of academic vigour  and training and the need for opportunities for positive personal development. We enjoy the powerful effect of a family, school and church working together for the benefit and well-being of our children. Our goal is to develop the whole ndividual and provide opportunities for students to grow and expand their horizons – in a caring atmosphere where staff guide and develop students’ thinking and behaviour.

The Pre-Prep Centre is proudly part of the Queensland Government Kindergarten Approved program with its own purpose-built centre in Coopers Plains, two minutes from the main College campus. Our educational, play-based program prepares students for Prep by developing pre-numeracy, preliteracy and social skills with many opportunities to enjoy the spontaneity of ‘free play’. Our qualified and experienced Director and staff all hold a degree in Early Childhood Education. Our Pre-Prep Centre offers both five-day-week and five-day-fortnight options, 8am to 4pm operating hours and a school holiday program. The Child Care Benefit and Child Care Rebate are also available for eligible families.

The Primary School ensures that students have essential educational foundations firmly in place so, in later years, they can build onto this strong foundation capable of supporting their talents and dreams. Behind the scenes lies a well-structured program that is regularly updated by caring and diligent staff. Additional opportunities such as Chinese lessons, music tuition, gymnastics classes and swimming lessons add variety to the school day. Initiatives supporting our Primary School students include optional after school Tutoring and Homework supervision, the English as a Second Language tuition and the Learning Enrichment Program with the College’s Gifted and Talented Committee continuously looking for additional ways to inspire exceptional and capable students.

The aim of the Middle School is to provide a supportive and gradual transition for students during this period of growth.
Students are supported as they move confidently from a single teacher and classroom to many, as preparation for the
different Senior School learning environment. Students are given greater authority to decide on the direction their schooling will take and subjects offered prepare students to later embark on either an Academic or Apprenticeship Pathway within the Pathway of Excellence Program in their Senior years. Strong bonds are formed between students and staff as
they explore the National Capital and Outback Queensland as part of our exciting Middle School program.

With the support of teaching and administrative staff, students in the Senior School work diligently to prepare for
further education and the world of work. Students are prepared for life beyond the classroom and are held accountable by their peers and teachers through daily House Tutor Group meetings. Relevant subject, co-curricular and outdoor learning opportunities, extension classes and
university or apprenticeship opportunities in Year 11 and 12 all equip our students to succeed. Senior School students are able to enhance their computer literacy skills, needed to meet the study requirements of the Academic and Apprenticeship Pathway, with the provision of take-home Netbooks and learning software.
Brisbane Christian College now has three special campuses for Pre-Prep, Primary School and Middle and Secondary School.

Supporting the academic curriculum is a robust co-curricular program designed to reinforce the learning goals of the College and help students to develop the critical thinking skills essential to succeed. Sport plays an important role in developing the whole child with many opportunities presented. Prep gymnastics, tennis, inter-school sport, swimming lessons and inter-College carnivals competing in athletics, swimming and cross country are a few of the opportunities available. Individual or paired tuition on a variety of instruments is available for students of all abilities, including piano/keyboard, guitar, orchestral strings, brass, woodwind and percussion. Singing lessons are also available and students have the opportunity to participate in choirs, musicals, bands and ensembles at a range of levels tailored to suit each student’s ability. The Give It A Go Program gives all students the opportunity to experience music tuition in a group environment. Our annual productions present students with many opportunities to get involved through singing, acting, set design, backstage and sound desk operation. Learning opportunities extend beyond the classroom through participation in activities such as debating, public speaking, LEO club, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Student Reporters Club and Chess Club.

A School Chaplain is a safe person for young people to connect with at school; providing a listening ear, caring presence, and a message of hope. They care for all students and offer support spiritually and emotionally as needed. A Chaplain is someone who is on the ground level available for students to talk to, often through casual conversations in the playground. The Chaplain, along with a team of staff and students, offers programs and voluntary spiritual groups for students to participate; including prayer groups, guys and girls devotional groups and adapted programs such as the Shine program. The Chaplain is also responsible for the Chapel period once every 3 weeks. At Brisbane Christian College we see the advantage of working as a team. The Chaplain works very closely with the College Counsellor, College Management Team and teachers to assist where ever possible with students

The five values of Brisbane Christian College:

Honour Jesus Christ
Empower others
Aspire to excellence
Respect others and self
Develop dynamic relationships.
Brisbane Christian College, as a Ministry of Life Church Brisbane, is the preferred place of learning. Our community empowers students to live Christ-focused lives. We aspire for excellence and equip our members to achieve their maximum potential.
Brisbane Christian College provides quality, holistic education that is both Christ-centred and innovative; encouraging confident, creative, life-long learners.
Our community equips its members to become resourceful servant leaders who live with dignity and care for others to the glory of God.

Our students now have more opportunities than ever to develop the skills and training they need to progress into a meaningful career after school. The Pathway of Excellence program is designed to qualify and practically prepare Senior School students for university studies or work in industry. The added advantage of a flexible timetable and our individual approach gives students every opportunity to pursue their career ambitions. Brisbane Christian College has fostered relationships with several leading universities and tertiary colleges to ensure that our students are given the opportunity to study a unit of work for the course of their choice at university while completing their school studies. Courses are attended on a weekly basis with students and teachers working closely together to best manage each individual student’s workload. Students have the opportunity to obtain practical experience throughout Year 11 and 12 and will have completed part of their apprenticeship or traineeship for their chosen career upon leaving school. Our Apprenticeship program is unique compared to other school-based apprenticeships and traineeships in that students alternate up to four weeks in the workplace being paid as an apprentice or trainee, followed by four weeks at school attending classes.

"What drew us to Brisbane Christian College was the genuine sense of a caring community. Several years and four children later, this has not changed even as the College has continued to grow and develop.

Brisbane Christian College is a wonderful school encompassing Pre-Prep to Year 12. It is filled with awesome, dedicated and passionate teachers and exhibits fantastic Christian discipleship, Teaching and Ministry. The College has a warm and friendly learning environment (which is non-discriminate and accepting of all people, cultures, backgrounds and abilities) and is up-to-date when it comes to innovations in effective education, including the ‘Pathways of Excellence’ program. We as parents highly recommend this school to all families (including those who may not be Christian or are affiliated with other religious beliefs) who are looking for quality education for their children! Brisbane Christian College is truly a blessing."

Mr Mark and Mrs  Roslyn Grossman

Our son is in Year 9 at Brisbane Christian College and we just wanted to let you know that we truly appreciate the professional and caring approach Mrs Natalie Robertson brings to this College. She has been our son’s support person this year and we cannot express in words enough, our gratitude and blessings for this wonderful teacher in our son’s life! It is teachers like Natalie that make a difference in the lives of students.

Rebecca is our son’s teacher aide and she constantly shares with us in our home how important teachers are to the learning outcomes of the children under their care. Natalie has approached her role as our son’s support person with professionalism, efficiency determination and understanding.

We wanted to share this wonderful story with you, as you continue get to know Brisbane Christian College and its staff and students.

Mr Steven and Mrs Rebecca Calliss

As a parent I appreciate the exceptional members of the Primary School staff at Brisbane Christian College. I am sure it is something the Heads of the College are aware of, but I believe it is important to hear it from someone who has experienced it daily, year after year.

My children have had the privilege to share their school journey with teachers of the utmost integrity and ability who demonstrate true love and understanding of children. My son’s current Year 4 teacher is a wonderful friend to him. She is limitless with her patience and support and leads the children by example of how a loving and devoted Christian should be. Her professionalism is to be commended and as a fellow teacher I look up to her. She has an understanding of children that usually is only understood by parents, yet she is able to support our family with every interaction she has with my precious son.

I know each year we will be blessed again by many wonderful teachers, and it makes my decision easy to keep my family a Brisbane Christian College family, from beginning to end.

Mr Andrew and Mrs Rachel Kemp

We have found Brisbane Christian College to be an enriching and holistic environment in which our children have been individually nurtured to bring out their full potential. The College has been focused on ensuring that not only do our children get an excellent academic grounding, but also a foundation with which to be strong Christian leaders in the world.

We have found that Brisbane  Christian College has a strong Christian faith and family values that are evident in the staff, the students and families that attend this College. The school has a down-to-earth approach that involves families working with teachers to get the best outcomes for children. The benefits of streaming and extension classes offer advantages rarely seen in other schools. We highly recommend this College to prospective parents who value academic excellence in an authentic Christian environment.

Mr David and Dr Belinda Goodwin

We chose Brisbane Christian College for our children for a number of reasons. We wanted our children to be educated by teachers who shared our Christian values and worldview. We wanted a college that spanned Pre-Prep to Year 12 to prevent our children being disrupted halfway through their education. And, we wanted a college where education was taught at a high standard by competent teachers who were willing to invest time into our children. All of these reasons, along with others such as location and cost, resulted in us choosing Brisbane Christian College. And, after being with the school for the last nine years, we continue to appreciate and support the College and highly recommend it to anyone considering quality education in the context of a caring, Christian community.’

Rev Dan and Dr Christine Bigg

Brisbane Christian College upholds true Christian morals and values, which in most schools today are a thing of the past. This is very important for a bright future; teaching children the way of the Lord so that when they grow up they may not depart from it and give us peace.

Mr Victor and Mrs Fadekemi Banji-Oke

Brisbane Christian College promised a community, not just a school, and our family have fully experienced this. The growth of our boys across all areas of their lives and the friendships we have all formed are a testament to the spirit of the College and the commitment of its staff.

Mr Mark and Mrs Sharon Mahoney

Several exciting initiatives have been put into place to ensure that our students are given the best platform to meet the future challenges of the Pathway of Excellence: Academic program, particularly in the core subjects of Math, Science, History and English.

Deputy Principal Mr Ross Eggins has announced the re-introduction of extension classes for Year 7–10 students to ensure that high achieving academic students are able to learn in a challenging environment alongside students of a similar ability.  High achieving students will be invited into the extension classes and will hold the responsibility of maintaining their position by continuing to excel academically.

Science extension classes for Year 9-10 students will prepare students for the rigours of high level Physics, Biology and Chemistry in their senior years and the additional introduction of Justice and Criminology will prepare them for Legal Studies in their senior years. Production and Visual Design will be separated into two subjects, Art and Drama, giving students a more tailored selection for their interests.

Year 11-12 students will also benefit with the addition of Geography as a new senior subject and Pathway of Excellence: Apprenticeship students will be prepared for their future careers through the four Board registered subjects of Vocational Maths, English Communication, Business and Information and Communications Technology.

The Primary School has followed suite and taken steps to ensure that gifted students are given the right support early in their education.  The College is in the first stages of establishing aGifted and Talented Committee for next year to investigate all possibilities to cater for our gifted and talented students. Often gifted children can be overlooked and forced to fit in and be average which may lead to under achievement and boredom. The Gifted and Talented program is essential in order to excite our exceptional students in their learning.

Teachers from Prep-Year 10 have been invited to form part of the Committee. Additionally, the College has become a member of the Queensland Associated for Gifted and Talented Children which will enable the College to remain in touch with current knowledge in this field. For a number of years from Prep-Year 4 we have been using ‘streaming’ in literacy and numeracy as a means to extend our children and to encourage our students who need more one-to-one help. The Gifted and Talented Committee will provide additional support to ensure that our gifted students are given challenges to encourage them to work to their full potential.

Brisbane Christian College is recognised as a College that meets the academic needs of all of our students. New parents pursue our College for its safe learning environment where children are encouraged to become all the God intends for them to be.

Jesus is the reason for our College. He is the driving force in our lives and gives a clear sense of calling to each staff member. Our families select Brisbane Christian College because of our holistic, student-focused approach to learning, strong family values, a nurturing environment and the outstanding behaviour of our students.

As the leader of Brisbane Christian College, I look forward to working collaboratively with you as your child flourishes within our community.

Mr Sean G Morrison
College Principal

Congratulations to our graduating classes of 2018 for another year of exceptional results with 17.2% of our OP eligible students achieving an OP1 or 2.  This is a testament to the hard work and determination of our graduates, but also to their families and the dedicated team of teachers and support staff at Brisbane Christian College who have continued to holistically encourage every Year 12 graduate on their journey to be who they are created to be.

For both our Year 5 and Year 12 graduating cohorts, thank you for the dedication to your studies and for allowing us to be a part of your schooling journey. We are excited for you as you start a new season in 2019.

Our Junior school NAPLAN assessments has been received and Brisbane Christian College continues to see improvement in opportunities for our children to achieve academic excellence. Out of the 860 Primary Schools in QLD, Brisbane Christian College is proud to have broken into the top 20 schools in Qld for the very first time. Both our Year 3 and Year 5 cohorts were considerably above the State averages in all areas.

  • Our Year 3 cohort was ranked 17th out of 860 schools for Spelling.

  • Our Year 3 cohort was ranked 20th out of 860 schools for Mathematics.

  • 19% of our Year 3 students scored 100% on the NAPLAN Mathematics assessment!!

Throughout 2018, we have developed our Pathway of Excellence: Apprenticeships program, and would like to congratulate all students who have secured a School-based Apprenticeship or Traineeship. We have also further developed our Aviation Academy, and have partnered with Esteem Business and Leadership College to give our Years 11 and 12 students the opportunity to complete a Diploma of Business. Completing the Diploma gives students a guaranteed ranking of 78 (approximately an OP 10), allowing them to apply for University.

In 2018, we officially opened our new Senior Secondary Precinct at the Middle and Secondary Campus. This state-of-the-art, purpose-built facility will be a place of communication, learning and performance for generations of young men and women, as they ‘Aspire to Excellence’ during their Senior years at the College.

Most importantly, our community continues to empower our children to live Christ-focused lives as our Chaplaincy team and College staff create an atmosphere for response and personal spiritual growth. We thank God for the great reports of children responding to follow Jesus, and miracles of healing amongst our children and staff.
