At Emmaus we work in partnership with your family to develop outstanding young men and women.
Emmaus College is a co-educational Catholic Secondary College situated on two Campuses. The College was established in 1980 through the amalgamation of St Thomas More College and Chavoin College.
Until 2012 the Years 7-10 Campus was located in Vermont South and the Years 11/12 Campus located at Burwood. In 2012 a complete change in school structures occurred with Vermont South home to all Year levels apart from Year 9. Year 9 now has a dedicated program and Campus at Burwood, known as Y9@E. Both Campuses are well served with public transport and College chartered buses.
There is a consistently strong demand for enrolment in Year 7 at the College with the total school population being around 1325 students. The school has VCE results above State averages and encourages all students to reach their personal best in College life. There is a strong emphasis on pastoral care of students, who have opportunities to be involved in many extra-curricular activities the College offers.
In 2011 our Senior Learning Centre and Double Court Stadium were completed at Vermont South. In 2012 a Performing Arts Centre opened. Combined with Science/Technology/Library/Administration facilities, Emmaus now has six contemporary learning facilities under 10 years old. The opening of our Galilee Centre on 18 July 2017 has provided another world-class learning space to complement our wonderful facilities. It houses a 235-seat lecture theature, Languages, VCAL, Learning Support, Careers and Psychologists.
A range of subjects covering the Key Learning Areas caters for the needs of our students. Students in Yrs 7 and 8 undertake a common course of study while our dedicated Yr 9 curriculum combines experiential learning with academic rigour. Year 10 students are able to pursue their interests in specialist subjects as well as select from a range of VCE options. At Years 11-12, VCE, VET and VCAL pathways are available.
A wide range of co-curricular activities include performing arts, sport, music, outdoor education, debating, Tournament of Minds, and subject association competitions. In addition there are interstate and overseas trips to Central Australia, Tasmania, Malaysia, Italy and a European experience. Exchange programs operate with sister schools in Italy, Germany and Indonesia. Various lunchtime and afterschool organised activities are also available.
Welcome! I am delighted to introduce you to Emmaus College.
We are a faith-filled, close-knit, engaged, friendly community that have been educating for over 40 years. The Catholic values of respect, dignity, justice, service, and love underpin all we do at Emmaus College. We are passionate about learning and have a forward and outward approach to education.
At Emmaus College, our students experience an innovative and dynamic learning environment that provides them with the academic and personal skills to flourish in the 21st century. Academic aspiration matters, and it is important that every student is inspired to be the best they can be. Our vision for learning encompasses all aspects of life, the intellectual, spiritual, physical, social, emotional, ethical, and cultural dimensions where education is consciously structured to develop the whole person in a caring, family-oriented community.
At Emmaus, we passionately believe that enjoyment of learning and our students’ wellbeing must lie at the heart of our endeavours. Our students learn to think independently and develop a spirit of independence that will allow them to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
We are staunch advocates for co-education, where young women and men learn how to study and lead together in a caring and respectful environment. Our students will encounter many challenges, choices and opportunities, so that they can grow their abilities and passions in life. Emmaus College enjoys an excellent reputation for its diverse and engaging co-curricular program that forms a significant element of the rich fabric within our College community. Here they will develop self-confidence, resilience, social skills, and character that can contribute so much to success in later life.
At Emmaus, your child will enjoy a vibrant contemporary culture and join a family where our inclusive community creates a strong sense of belonging.
Our motto “To know Christ” is central to the lived experience of our students. This ambition is hope-filled and life-giving. With our dedicated staff, parents, and community’s support, our students grow into young adults of integrity who possess a sense of social justice. These are qualities that will see them go out into the world and make a significant contribution towards society.
I look forward to welcoming you and your family to Emmaus College,
With every blessing
