As part of Scotch’s rich heritage, students have access to some of the most impressive facilities of any school. Whether a boy has an interest in the creative arts, sports or academic excellence, he has unparalleled opportunities to achieve his maximum potential.

Curriculum

Through the guidance of outstanding teaching staff and a flexible and modern curriculum, students are given the finest academic education, whilst learning the core values of integrity and social responsibility.

Creative Arts: Unparalleled Opportunities for Expression

new_musiclores Learning to play a musical instrument, create a piece of sculpture or perform before an audience encourages students to explore their creative and artistic potential.

At Scotch, boys enjoy a range and depth of musical, dramatic and artistic options to cater for even the most talented and dedicated individual. Performances of orchestras, bands, choirs and plays take place throughout the entire school year.

Sport and Activities Programs: Encouraging Personal Growth

Through Scotch’s sporting program, students learn the values of competition and teamwork. Scotch participates in the inter-school sporting activities organised by the Associated Public Schools of Victoria. A wide range of sports and teams allows almost every boy to compete in weekly competitions.

Facilities for sport include seven sports-fields, an all-weather hockey field, eighteen synthetic tennis courts, a Junior School gymnasium and an impressive indoor Sports Centre featuring a heated swimming and diving pool, basketball courts, gymnasium, three squash courts, weight-training complex and extensive rowing facilities situated on the campus on the banks of the Yarra River.

An active outdoors and services program is part of every boy’s experience, providing opportunities for personal growth and development.

Activities such as bushwalking, sailing, Scuba diving, Scouts, Cadets and Indigenous Partnership Program are just some of those on offer.

Mission Statement

Building on its Articles of Association, The School's Aim is ‘… to deliver an education which, secure in the traditions of our past and our Christian belief, opens boys’ minds to the rich diversity of the world in which they live and challenges them to question and explore everything they find, with integrity, humour and compassion. And to do this in an exciting, intimate environment which nurtures self-expression and self-worth while promoting the uniqueness of each boy’s journey.’

Scotch College is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church of Victoria. Christian teachings underpin Scotch’s philosophy and practices.

Pastoral Care

Fundamental to all of Scotch’s programs is a commitment to pastoral care. The School believes in fostering an environment that is supportive, caring and fulfilling.

A highly effective framework ensures that each student receives individual support and attention, creating an environment in which each student can develop self-esteem and a belief in his ability to achieve his ambitions.

Boarding School

Scotch College has been accepting boarders ever since the College started in 1851 and boarders are an integral part of the school community.

On the ‘Hill’, overlooking the Scotch Senior School, the College’s 160 boarders live in one of three separate boarding houses: School House, McMeckan House and Arthur Robinson House. The houses are set around a broad drive and are surrounded by trees and beautiful, well-manicured gardens.

Approximately 70% of boarders are from rural Victoria and southern New South Wales and about 30% local and overseas. Some are sons of expatriate Australians living in South East Asia and elsewhere; others are sons of families from a wide variety of countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, The Middle East, USA and Europe.

The boarding school is a welcoming and supportive community which emphasises the development of self-confidence, independence and a tolerance and understanding of others. Boarders can take full advantage of the breadth of Scotch’s teaching and co-curricular programmes and facilities whilst living in a caring, structured and well supervised environment.

Houses are under the direction of a Head of House, who is a member of the teaching staff and resides in the House with their family. Two other members of staff are also resident in each house, with two other staff members living in flats and houses nearby.  The resident House Manager looks after laundry, sewing and basic first aid. Overall responsibility for ‘The Hill’ rests with the Dean of Boarding, who also lives onsite with his family.
