Welcome to St Brendan's College, Central Queensland's leading Catholic secondary school for boys, operating since 1940.  We are a day and boarding school for boys from Years 7 to 12, located on a beautiful 300 acres only minutes to the beaches of Yeppoon and only a 30 minute drive from Rockhampton.

We provide diverse academic and extra-curricular programs, giving boys significant opportunities to grow into young men of knowledge, respect and faith.

Our emphasis is on the development of the whole person and in particular the need to grow boys into respectful, confident and successful young men of faith. A proactive Pastoral Care program and the Edmund Rice ethos underpins all endeavors and creates boys who understand and believe in service to the community in a spirit of justice and solidarity.

We have a strong focus on promoting the safety and wellbeing of young men under our care. Our responsibilities for child safeguarding are taken extremely seriously and we commit to ensuring that our College has appropriate policies and practices to make it safe and inclusive. Crucial to this, is student voice and agency. EREA’s School Child Safeguarding Programs are regularly updated and checked for compliance with regulatory requirements and all staff undertake mandatory Child Safeguarding Training.

We have a strong academic program which offers multiple pathways for students to pursue tertiary education or move into trade-based qualifications, with a significant and renowned vocational education and training (VET) facility onsite.

The College is recognised nationally for its sporting prowess, and has abundant co-curricular opportunities, including music, cultural and technology programs that are second to none in Central Queensland.

Our College community strives for excellence and has a reputation for producing friendly, hard-working and down-to-earth young men. Enrolments are drawn from the Capricorn Coast, from rural and regional Queensland and from as far north as the Torres Strait.  With this diversity of students, strong cultural and social interactions are assured and friendships are often maintained for life.

The boarding residences provide a wonderful living environment for boarders, nestled amongst beautiful gardens, and abundant sporting fields, and adjacent to the first-class academic facilities of the College.  Every opportunity is at the boys’ fingertips and with guidance from our Assistant Principal Residential to residential staff, the Health Centre and support services members, there is space for them to grow and mature.

We are a diverse, vibrant and welcoming community founded on the values of the Gospel. St Brendan’s College is confident that in providing a well-rounded education in partnership with parents and families, the young men of the College will enter the world with the knowledge, confidence, values and skills to make a difference.

More than an education, we are proud that young men leave our College with a brotherhood and belonging for life. We invite you to discover a snapshot of life at St Brendan’s College by browsing our website and welcome you to visit and tour our College.

ST Brendan's College has been a leader in boys education in Central Queensland since 1940.

It is a day and boarding school for boys from Years 7 to 12, located on a beautiful 121 hectares only minutes to the beaches of Yeppoon and 40 minutes from Rockhampton.

It is a diverse, liberating and inclusive community in the Edmund Rice Tradition, founded on the values of the gospel.

The College campus has numerous dedicated facilities assisting staff in the pursuit of academic, sporting and pastoral excellence.

This carefully curated balance contributes to the College's unique identity as a holistic campus and with the addition of our newly constructed state-of-the-art STEM complex, it provides more diversity in educational pathways for students.

Wet labs, a lecture theatre and technology rooms are all part of the facility, which provides an immersive environment for students to apply creativity and intuition in the discovery process.

An area of growth and diversity at the College is its comprehensive Vocational Education program that prepares students for career success.

The College has developed exciting industry partnerships to help implement workplace practice and as well as teaching LEAN manufacturing principles in preparation for students stepping out into career pathways.

Industry partners look to St Brendan's students as prospective employees already equipped with skills and ready to take on higher levels of training by the time they have completed their high school education.

The agricultural program is dynamic and progressive.

Head of Agriculture Bill Oram is enthusiastic and committed to educating the boys in all areas of agriculture.

The College strives to keep informed of the latest and best practices and the boys can complete certificates in Rural Operations. Beyond the classroom, Mr Oram supervises and supports students in co-curricular activities including cattle and rodeo club and horse riding.

The College also offers the only school-based rodeo club in the nation and hosts an annual rodeo on Father's Day weekend each year.

Many students who pass through the College relate strongly to its rich boarding history and recall their time here as their 'home away from home'. Residences provide a comfortable living environment overseen by caring and nurturing staff with an abundance of activities both on campus and in the local community.

The College boasts a long line of athletic and academic success stories from professional rugby league players to participants in the NASA data Missions to Mars.

Staff are innovative and dedicated.

St Brendan’s College is located on a 300-acre campus nestled at the foot of Mt Barmoya, minutes from Yeppoon beaches and central business district. It is an easy 40 minute drive from Rockhampton (direct air, train and bus access) to the seaside community in Central Queensland.

The main campus occupies a built area of 10-acres with the remainder a tranquil, bushland setting where the smell of eucalypt leaves you in no doubt you are among the green and gold, both that of Australia and of St Brendan’s where the school colours echo throughout.

The campus has numerous dedicated facilities assisting staff in the pursuit of academic, sporting, and pastoral excellence. This curated blend contributes to the unique nature of the College as a holistic facility, one that provides students the convenience and safety of being able to fulfil their needs without additional travel.

St Brendan's College provides a wide variety of opportunities for students across a range of sports and ability levels. Participating in sport helps boys shape self-esteem, build confidence and motivates them to achieve their future goals.

For young boys, sport is not only where social skills are built but goal setting, team-work, time management and leadership skills are developed and utilised as a life-long characteristic. It shouldn’t be a surprise that boys who participate in sport also do well academically. They are more focused and can apply the commitment and hard work associated with their sport, to their studies. Interestingly, statistics show that boys who play on high school sports teams have a higher probability of graduating and moving on to higher education. The brotherhood and friendships formed at St Brendan’s College through sport will last a lifetime.

Sports available at St Brendan’s College are determined by the Rockhampton and District Secondary Schools Sport, Capricornia School Sport and Queensland School Sport competitions.

Students and parents are encouraged to regularly check the sports noticeboard, listen/check the daily notices and download the St Brendan’s College phone app for regular updates.

The Music Program and facilities at St Brendan's College are undoubtedly the most inclusive, modern and state-of-the-art in Central Queensland.

The College is proud of the fact that more than 50 per cent of the student population is involved in some form of music instruction at the College, whether that is private tuition or part of the significant music program embedded in the academic curriculum.

At St Brendan’s College, music is for everyone; there is no knowledge required when our students start so the opportunity is for every student to participate, enjoy and excel at music.  The College's Performing Arts Centre is undoubtedly the best music facility in Central Queensland, purpose-built and modelled on the best of the best facilities in South East Queensland.

There are a range of pathways for students to be involved in music at the College.  Students can participate and enjoy music within the classroom studying a range of music subjects that are offered throughout the secondary program, or as an extra-curricular activity via private music tuition or involvement in the large number of College ensembles and bands.

St Brendan's College's history dates back to the 1940's when it was established to provide a Catholic education for “the sturdy station children, the sons of cattlemen and sheepmen from the great, grand heart of the West.”

Today, the College is proud to continue to offer opportunities for rural students to continue their rural interests while at school, and to extend their academic learnings in the agricultural sphere.

St Brendan's College has a dedicated Agricultural Centre, offers academic choices in Rural Operations and has a strong extra-curricular offering for students with agricultural and rural interests, including Cattle Club, Rodeo Club and horse riding.

A range of clubs, homework support and tutorials are available free of charge to students.

St Brendan’s College Boarding offers a sprawling 300 acre-campus with abundant space, facilities, academic and extra-curricular opportunities for the development of boys to young men.  We are located only minutes from Yeppoon Town Centre and the beauty of Capricorn Coast's beaches, and a short half an hour drive from Rockhampton.

The College is a spacious ‘home away from home’ for boys with quality staffing and support so parents can be assured their son’s care and welfare is our ultimate priority.

St Brendan’s College Boarding has been specialising in the provision of residential care for young men from Central Queensland and beyond since 1940. With such a wealth of experience, we understand the unique needs of our boarding students and their families. Our qualified and experienced staff provide a level of care that resembles that of a family home. Our professional and caring staff provide a safe and structured environment and support the boys through any academic or personal issues that may arise.  The daily routine for each Residence is supervised by Heads of Residence staff. They are well supported by a trained team of supervisors to ensure comprehensive duty of care.  All Heads of Residence and Supervisors live on-site, have “Working with Children” clearances and are in-serviced regularly in the latest strategies and innovations in Residential Care.

Specifically, the residential community of St Brendan’s College aims:

  • To be a caring, nurturing community founded on the virtues of love, acceptance and tolerance;
  • To reach out to all young people, engage them on their own terms, accept them as they are and yet challenge them at all times to be the best person they possibly can;
  • To develop a strong sense of community built on the ideals of faith and service, where the young person has scope and support to develop physically, intellectually, socially, emotionally and spiritually;
  • To provide an atmosphere of dignity and respect for all based on clear values of faith and personal spirituality;
  • To encourage all members to grow in faith, love and respect by providing opportunities for community service and leadership.

The focus is strongly pastoral and is founded in sound educational and spiritual practices developed specifically for young men. The formation programs are responsive to the ever-changing needs of the modern teenager while respecting the necessity for strong moral and behavioural standards.

Our Pastoral Care Program is designed to care for the welfare and personal development of each student.

On arrival at the College each student is welcomed into a Pastoral Care group for the duration of his schooling.  This helps to nurture a sense of belonging and also enables the student to develop a support network made up of young men from his Year Level, his Pastoral Carer and his Year Level Coordinator. The program is supported by an on-site, full-time Counsellor. By working collaboratively, we aim to provide a family environment where each young man can grow in faith and personal understanding. Special leadership and outdoor education programs offered to each Year Level support each student’s growth and development.

Through this Pastoral Care program, all in our College community are challenged to discover and develop their talents and leadership abilities. Values such as compassion, care, inclusion and a strong sense of community underpin all that we do.  Consequently, school rules are based on the principles of respect and restorative justice.

e believe that faith and formation are integral to the development of young men.

As a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice tradition, the faith life of the College, supported by a proactive Pastoral Care program, underpins all our endeavours. Our core mission is to create a safe environment for the development of young men of faith, respect and knowledge. As well as internal Masses, our students are often involved in the community of faith on the Capricorn Coast at other Masses and events.

Opportunities for reflection, prayer and liturgy are embedded throughout daily school life. This provides students with the opportunity to explore faith and spirituality individually, as a class group, a year level and as a whole school. Every Saturday evening our boarding students travel to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church to celebrate the Eucharist, giving them the opportunity for reflection and to grow in their understanding of the Catholic faith. All members of our school and wider community are welcome to attend this Mass.
