Calvary Christian College in Queensland will travel to Windsor Castle in London after being invited to tell their story of innovation in educational practice as part of Her Majesty’s Queen Elizabeth’s 90th Birthday celebrations in May, 2016. The College will also be featured in the Her Majesty’s official commemorative album in the chapter titled “The Best of the Commonwealth”.

Mr. Steven Coote, the Principal and CEO of Calvary Christian College along with two members will travel to London in May 2016 and will attend lunch in the Royal Enclosure at Windsor Castle. The same teachers have then been invited to celebrate at the birthday spectacular which will involve 900 horses and more than 1,500 participants from around the United Kingdom and the World. It will be on scale to match the Olympics Opening Ceremony.

The invitation comes as the result of new conversations and planning which is taking place at the College – where now there is a clear and committed investigation about the nature of quality learning and how we actually equip our young people to thrive in a world that is changing exponentially. The College believes by getting this right, then the possibilities for students in nothing but exciting.

The exponential change in all areas across the globe requires that our young people must be able to create and be responsive to the world and what it demands,” says Coote. This requires changes to what has happened in schools since before the 20th century. Stepping head on into this conversation is definitely something Calvary embraces to the extent it has replaced the word “teacher” with “learning designer” to reflect the way educators design the “conditions for success for every student”.

We plan to be courageous – our young people depend on us as adults to look forward with them to see what they need to thrive. Calvary Christian College was founded in 1984 and now occupies two campuses with just under 1,100 students. The school was established as a ministry of Logan Uniting Church, but is non-selective. Its Christian worldview is central, but is part of a thoroughly modern model of education.
